Join the Lowe for the opening reception of their newest exhibitions “A House Divided” by Billie Grace Lynn, and Contemporary Israeli Art: “Visions of Place”. Complex societal issues, such as the conflict in Israel through photographs, videos, installations, paintings, sculptures, and mixed media. Visions of Place includes thirty-four contemporary artists who explore contending views of history and identity, questioning relationships to, and conflicts over, place. “A House Divided” explores performance and installation while discussing black youth in America in an interactive and interdisciplinary interactive piece that provokes viewers to consider identity politics, civic engagement, civil discourse, and democracy’s precarious fragility. On view until August 4.
MOCA is hosting UCLA scholar Dr. Katherine Smith in conversation with POTOPRENS artist Myrlande Constant, a leading artist in the new style of large, densely beaded Vodou flags. The conversation will be archived in the Digital Library of the Caribbean at Florida International University, in partnership with the FIU LACC. On June 20, 7 – 9 pm.

Join ICA for the opening of a pop up exhibition just for the kids! This interactive exhibition entitled “Seeking the Essence” was created by artist and author Menena Cottin who wanted to bring children together with storytelling, creative and imaginative play surrounding topics of inclusion and friendship through art. Come on free family day for a meet and greet with the Menena Cottin and a chance to explore the exhibit, which will only be on display for a week.

Join HistoryMiami museum and resident historian Dr. Paul George for a whole new exploration of this city’s colorful past, from gangsters, drug smugglers, mafia personas, to high-profile kidnappings. Dr. George will take visitors from the South Beach location of Gianni Versace´s assassination at his mansions doorstep, to the filming location of the series that made our city famous—Miami Vice, as well as the Miami cemetery.

Join the Gables Museum for monthly talks on the art world, this months special being a group of Cuban-American women who paved the way for photographers in their country with their progressive view on art. Join Aldelde Delgado for a discussion on her role as a modernizing force in Cuban society.

Before it closes, visit Miami MoCAAD’s Reconstructing Identity: An Exploration of Identity and Diaspora Through Artistic Practice, a pop-up exhibition of painting, sculpture, photography and drawings. Join the Coral Gables Arts Cinema for a pre-Independence Day film extravaganza directed by Denys Arcand “The Fall of the American Empire”. This film is witty and critical in its depiction of modern capitalistic society, and takes on the powerful themes of the predominance of money and morals in outrageous cinematic sequence. This film is in French with English subtitles and is rated R.
Join PAMM for their “Made at PAMM” event every Thursday, with hands-on workshops, and creative activities inspired by the museums current exhibitions, access to the Galleries after hours, happy our and light bites at the delicious Verde terrace museum restaurant. Enjoy a night of peaceful fun and art-making every Thursday this summer at PAMM, while also enjoying free admission in this Independence Day special.
