The film depicts the Vodou religion within Haiti and the solace that these men found in it as they explored their potential and sexuality in a spiritual way.

Divine Horsemen: The Living Gods of Haiti @ MOCA - Museum of Contemporary Art

Divine Horsemen: The Living Gods of Haiti is a documentary that depicts the rituals of three Vodou cults whose origins stem from Africa. The viewer is introduced to a pantheon of spirits who communicate to their worshippers. The screening is followed by an in-person discussion led by Lucrèce Louisdhon and Louines Louinis Haitian folklorists. Guadalupe Maravilla: Los Purifiers @ ICA / Institute of Contemporary Art

Friday, August 9, Performance at 7 pm. ICA Miami and Guadalupe Maravilla present Los Purifiers, a new performance by the New York- and Richmond-based artist that aims to create a new visual memory for the entangled genealogy of border-crossing stories. As part of the performance, Maravilla will initiate a sound activation intended to cleanse phobias and blockages resulting from an accelerating political climate.

Glowing Lanterns Parade @ Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

For the past three years, summers at Vizcaya have been marked by a unique performance – 1,000 people coming together in a glowing processional of illuminated lanterns. This year’s illuminated spectacular will be bigger than ever! Arrive early and enjoy food trucks and live entertainment starting at 7:00 p.m. Then get ready for the parade to begin promptly at 8:30 p.m. as night falls on the gardens. Tickets are $10 for the general public.

PAMM Closes for Maintenance August 19-25, 2019 @ Perez Art Museum Miami

Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), as well as Verde Restaurant and Bar, will be closed to the public from Monday, August 19 through Sunday, August 25, 2019 for maintenance. Administrative offices and phone lines will still be open for questions, event bookings, dining reservations, and memberships. The museum will reopen to the public on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 10am, with usual museum hours. Learn more at pamm.org/visit. While the museum is closed, connect with PAMM digitally. What it Means to be Hispanic in America Today & Jazz @ MOCA - Museum of Contemporary Art

Panel Discussion at 6 pm, Jazz at MOCA at 8 pm on Friday, September 27. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is thrilled to present an expanded event as part of its Jazz at MOCA series on Friday, Sept. 27 including a performance by singer Leslie Cartaya, a panel discussion and O, Miami. The conversation will be moderated by Antonio Martinez, former district director of Dade County Public Schools. Speakers will comprise of Hispanic artists of various mediums including writer N.J. Perez, the author of “Heart of a Cuban”, artist Edison Penafiel, who is an exhibiting artist of the South Florida Cultural Consortium Exhibition, and singer Leslie Cartaya. Guests may also walkthrough MOCA’s exhibition “South Florida Cultural Consortium,” with free admission.
