The exhibition will feature new sculptures from internationally renowned painter and sculptor Alain Godon’s Architectural series. He began his Architectural series in 2006. Since then, he has painted and sculpted the sites and spirit of many cities, including Paris, New York, Amsterdam and Miami. Each bronze sculpture is related to an existing painting, and a total of 80 artworks will be on exhibit at Markowicz Fine Art, located in the Miami Design District.
Picking up every characterizing detail that embodies an architectural structure, Godon has a very unusual method of looking at a building that is skillfully portrayed within the art piece. Each sculpture captures several structural points of view influenced by the building’s many angles, which are all placed on a three-dimensional image to expose the landmark design elements, expanding the architectural integrity.
A powerful master of color, he captures the essence of a city with a fusion of expressive lines, vivid colors and playful imagination in his paintings. His work tells a hidden story uniquely personal, meant for interpretation by the viewer.
BildoReliefos are Godon’s own technique introduced in 2009 at the Pavilion des Arts et du Design event in Paris. To create these dramatic pieces the artist revisits his original oil paintings, and digitally adjusts the colors, shadows and light, forming the impression of an image in relief.
In 2014, Godon was commissioned by the City of Miami Beach to design the 2015 Miami Beach City Report with his signature artwork depicting several Miami Beach locations and buildings. The report was presented by South Florida Executive Magazine to Mayor Philip Levine and other city officials on Dec. 9, 2014. “The moment I arrived in Miami, I was immediately drawn to the colorful energy of the city and distinct beauty apparent in the architectural landscape and culture of its people,” he said of his first trip touring Miami in 2009.
Godon’s work has been exhibited worldwide. In 2012, he had a solo exhibition at the Museum of Le Touquet in France, just after the exhibits of renowned artists as Jean Dubuffet, Henri Moore and Bernard Buffet. In 2017, he will exhibit at the Matisse Museum in Nice, France. The exhibit will be a unique collaboration with the Matisse family on an exhibit inspired in Tahiti.
