Until April 9 Beyond Realism Trained in Florence, Italy, Cesar Santos is a Cuban-American painter. His body of work illustrates unconventional ideas and images in complex compositions bringing both worlds –theoretical and naturalistic- into communion. He takes objects out of their natural context creating a new environment for them, a new reality or world for us. His images transmit the impression of historic paintings but imbued with contemporary fresh concepts and his own philosophy. He has undertaken a series of suggestive and theatrical figure paintings whose style raises questions, causing one to probe the imagery present for the internet meaning. Santos has exhibited at the Frost Museum at FIU in Miami, at the Villa Bardini Museum in Florence and he has participated in group exhibits in Europe and Latin America as well. Currently Mr. Santos is based in New York.About: Harvey Oxenberg began collecting art in the early 1980’s, starting with beautiful photographs by Bruce Weber and continued to acquire works by many established contemporary artists in the ensuing twenty-five years.
