June 14 – August 11

Harry Schuster & Gustavo Zajac

“The 60’s was a decade of change and transformation. In all aspects it was undoubtedly a crucial and intense period in our lives. In my opinion, it brought about the most relevant changes to the dynamics of human development and growth.

The arts assumed a new form of expression. Artists found a myriad of ways to integrate themselves in the flow of a constantly changing society in its different manifestations, and facing the challenges needed to reinvent themselves. This was the beginning of the transformation that established the base for our new society.
Schuster and Zajac, use their symbols and include them in Pop’ the wine cellar, master pieces of world wide known masters like Caravaggio, Velazquez, Zurbaran and others are now reinterpreted by them, giving a new and perhaps unique meaning to the piece, without loosing the primary object of Pop Art. The Art as a consumer’s object.

In Harry Schuster and Gustavo Zajac’s work, the most remarkable and noticeable element to the observer is the perception of their technical skills, as well as the pleasure of creating the art piece. When an artist posseses these elements, few are the obstacles he finds to describe his inner world and his feeling. Therefore, he is able to freely express his “daily life” revealing the true sense of existence…of reality.” Oscar Sjöstrand

About Art Nouveau Gallery
Art Nouveau Galeria was founded in Maracaibo, Venezuela in 1987 by Elizabeth Hazim de Castillo and in 2010 she opened a space in Wynwood, Miami, known as Art Nouveau Gallery with her daughter in law and partner Georgina Chumaceiro. The gallery features modern and contemporary art focused on the geometric abstraction art, widely explored in Latin America, and ranges from emerging and mid-career artists to major historical art figures such as Cruz Diez and Jesús Rafael Soto. These artists have exhibited widely in museums and institutions in Venezuela, but for many mid-career Venezuelan and Colombian artists, Art Nouveau Gallery contributes to achieve international recognition, and they are regularly included in art fairs including Art Miami since 1998, FIA Caracas since 1997 and The Armory Show since 2012.

Art Nouveau Gallery works directly with their artists, coordinating exhibitions in the Venezuela and Miami galleries. Art Nouveau Gallery supports public art projects and publications, such as the Rafael Barrios project, which together with The Park Avenue Fund and the City of New York Department of Parks and Recreation, Venezuelan artist Barrios installed 9 Sculptures in Park Avenue New York from 50th St to 68th St, from March to June, 2012.
