Cristobal González Guzmán: Pintor de Caballete, opens the season in the Centre Gallery at the Wolfson Campus on September 12 and runs through November 8, 2013.Painting the energetic vitality of life, Cristobal González Guzmán fills his abstractions of female figures, portraits, and still lifes with a feisty zest and dynamism. Vividly playful and sensual, beneath the brush these colors, curves, and lines become powerful forces, able to entice and delight. González Guzmán sees himself as a colorist, immersing himself into the passionate sensations of pigments and hues as he expresses his own identity through the visual language and personal imagery of his art. Building his works in mixed media and oil paints on canvas, González Guzmán dives into his art with free and joyful marks, using bold sweeping strokes and loose, rhythmic patterning to create his compositions. Born in Ecuador, Cristobal González Guzmán received his Master’s degree from the University of Miami before moving back to his homeland to open the González Guzmán Art Gallery and teach visual arts at the American School of Quito. Soon returning to the United States where he will continue to exhibit extensively, he has also shown his work in solo shows throughout Ecuador and Europe.
