Women Painting is a multifaceted project that attests to the vibrancy and relevance of the practice of painting by women, from the 1970s to the present day. Part exhibition, part catalog and part video, the project focuses on the practice of painting, a technology with a long, nuanced history in the face of evolving interactivity via the use of technology.

Inspired by Emile de Antonio’s era-defining 1972 documentary film “Painters Painting,” Girls’ Club directors Michelle Weinberg and Sarah Michelle Rupert travelled to the studios of eleven contemporary artists in the South Florida and New York area, exploring the artists’ practice, pursuits, and creative drives while illuminating the public on the particular experiences of women artists. The resulting video will premiere along with the launch of the catalog on Sunday, October 1st, 2 – 5pm.

The catalog, designed by Natalie Zlamalova, features essays from Wanda Texon, Associate Curator, MDC Museum of Art + Design, Ann Landi, arts writer and Vasari21.com blogger, and an excerpt from a new fiction piece by writer and artist Denise Delgado. Printed locally in South Florida, the catalog is published by Girls’ Club in an edition of 200.

Pre-orders available at www.girlsclubcollection.org/shop.

This project is supported by the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, MDC Museum of Art + Design, Girls’ Club and private donors.
