Two Years in Miami. Twenty-Five Years in Maracaibo:
Working with Venezuelan Geometric Abstraction Masters and the younger generation

In almost twenty years since its establishment, Art Nouveau has won a dear place in the heart of art collectors and artists who appreciate and enjoy the best of art. From its beginnings, Art Nouveau has faced the challenge of showcasing the most interesting proposals from Venezuela with sensibility and courage. It has succeeded in making its spaces an inescapable reference to the best known masters of international art, and has been a first home to some new creators, whom time, wise as always, has chosen as a way to reward the remarkable vision of this gallery.

For the past two years, Art Nouveau is one of the most avant-garde galleries in South Florida, but bear in mind that this is not a deliberate purpose or guideline; most likely it is simply the result of a happy coincidence, a product of the determination of its Directors, Elizabeth Castillo and Georgina Chumaceiro. As a creative team they show what their instinct tells them to be the best. “The eye does the photography but it is the heart that sets the guidelines in this business”, says Mrs. Castillo, as if, in an attempt to simplify it all, she reduces the sight and the mind to the status of mere instruments for appreciation, helping us, the humble spectators, understand that to enjoy art we don’t need any intellectual equations or endless visits to the greatest museums in the world: all that is needed is to place the sight at the disposal of the soul and to let ourselves be taken to an alternate universe of emotions.

About the Gallery

Art Nouveau Galeria was founded in Maracaibo, Venezuela in 1987 by Elizabeth Hazim de Castillo and in 2010 she opened a space in Wynwood, Miami, known as Art Nouveau Gallery with her daughter in law and partner Georgina Chumaceiro. The gallery features modern and contemporary art focused on the geometric abstraction art, widely explored in Latin America, and ranges from emerging and mid-career artists to major historical art figures such as Cruz-Diez and Jesús Rafael Soto.

Art Nouveau Gallery Miami, apart from a strong secondary market, represents highly credentialed Latin American Geometric Abstraction artists such as Rafael Barrios, Alberto Cavalieri, Hector Ramirez, Carlos Medina, Abel Ventoso and Marcolina Dipierro, among others.
