Ninoska Huerta is proud to present a selection of recent works by Carlos Estevez, Andrés Michelena and Peter Weber for her end-of-year private exhibition. The show combines three diverse thematic threads into works united by their common interest in drawing as a starting point. Each artist works through different processes, revising the use of the line in different contexts and conceptual paths.

Carlos Estevez (1969 Havana, Cuba), an artist and filmmaker who began showing his drawings and paintings in the 1980s, presents a series of works on paper and ceramics that evoke stories and cartographies from the past, encompassing both geometrical and figurative shapes using symbols intended to represent an ancestral vision of our history.

Andrés Michelena (1963, Caracas, Venezuela) studied Architecture and Fine Arts in Venezuela. For this exhibit presents a series of gestural abstract and geometrical drawings in acrylic paint created with an iPad on IKEA table panels. In combination, they speak to meditations on technology, consumerism, space, architecture and modernity and also, by proposing utopian shapes, question the notions of bi- and tri-dimensionality.

Peter Weber (1944 Kollmar/Elbe, Germany) is a composer, musician, and artist who started showcasing his work in 1969, his first experiences in art derived from Op and Concrete Art, by producing serial changes from linear structures. In 1975 he began incorporating drawing into his works along with the bi-dimensional plane with folding techniques, including felt, paper and canvas and his fascination with mathematical progressions, experimentation with plastic materials, steel and high-density polymers. Weber explores shapes and lines that develop into drawings of patterns and geometrically interwoven shapes made solely from these materials.
