José Gurvich, Blue and Orange New York, 1973, tempera on cardboard, 31 x 42 cm.

"For me, there are no points of greater importance in the canvas, no hierarchies; I try to give life to it millimeter by millimeter". José Gurvich (1927 - 1974)

December 3, 2013 - February 15, 2014

"The time span of the present exhibition – that comprises 70 works dated between 1946 (when the artist was 19 years old) and 1972 – covers practically the total of José Gurvich’s creative period. For this reason, this exhibition has an evident didactic potential for those who are making a first approach to Gurvich’s world; in addition, it will be illustrative for those who already appreciate his work and, mainly, it will be an enjoyable experience for the public in general. I use the term enjoyable because this show, so diverse in nature, (including paintings, a substantial collection of drawings, and two exquisite small sculptures) is representative of the artist’s vitality and of the creative happiness that accompanied all his works. Apart from an undoubted artistic talent, perhaps he received these additional gifts as a compensation for living such a short life".Tatiana Oroño.
