The first annual Houston Fine Art Fair is set to blow the cover off the country’s best-kept secret. Still undiscovered by many of the most savvy art aficionados, Houston will soon be known as the cultural gem of the US—home to major museums, a thriving gallery scene, and a strong base of serious collectors and patrons. And now celebrating its entry into the international art fair calendar, Houston is set to be a gracious host to the first annual HFAF, with festivities beginning on the evening of September 15 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
HFAF aspires to reflect Houston’s sophisticated and diverse collecting practices, where arts enthusiasts will encounter an international cross-section of works in all media, from post-war to the present. Some 75 distinctive exhibitors from across the US, Latin America and Europe are participating in the fair, featuring modern and contemporary masters, mid-career and emerging artists from around the globe. HFAF will also feature on-site installations, special projects, and an exciting program of panel discussions designed for both novice and experienced collectors.
Highlights of the weekend:
  • Our special Preview on Thursday, September 15 will benefit the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Glassell School of Art Core artists’ and critics’ residency program, an exciting evening amidst Houston’s most glamorous company
  • Anchored by Houston’s top galleries and a highly active Host Committee, HFAF exhibitors hail from Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Germany, Hong Kong, the UK, Mexico, and Venezuela, joining US galleries from Albuquerque, Baltimore, Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York, Santa Fe, Scottsdale and St. Louis, among others
  • A VIP program will offer our special guests a sampling of Houston’s diverse collections and institutions, including visits to collectors’ homes, and private tours of museums and corporate collection
  • Given the market’s important Latin American museum holdings and world-class collectors, HFAF will introduce a strong component of galleries specializing in classic and contemporary Latin American art
  • An on-site program of panel discussions on thought-provoking art-market topics featuring invited curators, critics and collectors
  • A lifetime achievement award will be given to internationally acclaimed artist Donald Sultan at a special reception.
