Humberto Castro, Butterfly, Oil on Canvas, 2010, 44 x 58 in.
Humberto Castro. Traces of Migration

In his third solo exhibition by Cuban emigré Humberto Castro, he explores again the visual metaphors or fables based on the concept of historic immigration as the foundation for today’s society.

“Like a poet, Castro imbues his images with lyrical nuances without diminishing their impact” wrote in his catalogue essayJorge H. Santis, Curator of Collections at the Fort Lauderdale Museum and the curator of its 2000-01 one-person exhibition of Castro’s works from Paris.

Like works in the previous shows, First 15-Year Retrospective in Nov. 2006 and Contemporary Fables in 2008, Castro’s new paintings include references to the exodus of Cuban“balseros” and the U.S. “wet foot-dry foot” policy of allowing Cubans to stay if they can reach land.

Javier Valle Pérez. Connotation in Abstraction

"The word connotation refers to things or attributes that the word brings to mind, any idea or notion suggested or associated with the word. I named this exhibition Connotation in Abstraction because my work contains the same characteristics: iconographies and undefined forms that suggest something familiar; little abstract figures wanting to be or become something we can relate to. The pictorial language I use is the kind of abstraction that can be understood or recognized. Taking as a point of reference objects such as toys, planes, animals and machines, I tap into my imagination to bring to life miniature worlds of make belief”.

Zach Sawan. Pretty Girls
Recent Works.

RDZ Fine Art introduces the much celebrated work of artist Zach Sawan with his "Pretty Girls" series: "These paintings of girls whom I know represent a deep infatuation as well as woeful acceptance of what will never be. These young women are unflinchingly beautiful; they never take a bad picture, they are full of vim and because of a variety of circumstances we will remain nothing more than friends at best. I have attempted to communicate the implicit emotions by creating portraits that are unflattering as well as slightly disturbing. Their beauty has been skewed but not altogether hidden, for they should be celebrated for their splendor, yet I cannot ignore my grievances. These are the first of an ever-growing collection of my "pretty girls." - Z. Sawan.

Ramirez Villamizar, Aerolito # 2, hierro oxidado, 67 x 36 x 36 cm, 1992-R.

Ramírez Villamizar and Fanny Sanín Discipline in Painting and Sculpture /
La Disciplina en Pintura y EsculturaAbout Concrete Abstract Art

“It is not uninteresting to see how the luxuriant nature of the American continent, its intense baroque style and its magical realism have engendered a movement as rigorous as that of concrete abstract art. The asceticism of this artistic tendency seems to contradict the eloquence characteristic of everything American which manifested itself since the florid times of the chroniclers, passing through modernism until the present day. Nevertheless, that is how it has been. In Uruguay and Argentina, where the “Madí” movement was born; in Venezuela, where cybernetics and optical art came into their own; in Brazil, mother country of concrete poetry; or in Colombia, where the abstraction represented by EduardoRamírez Villamizar and Fanny Sanín, among others, has flourished….” Carlos Luis
