SUMMARY:Summer Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:Sunshine & Ink: The Florida Printmakers\nPresented in the Center’s main galleries\, Sunshine & Ink: The Florida Printmakers features six contemporary South Florida artists transforming the traditional medium of printmaking into a dynamic tool of modern expression. The exhibition includes works by Jennifer Basile\, Chee Bravo\, Brian Reedy\, Ingrid Schindall\, Joseph Velasquez\, and Tom Virgin. The exhibition showcases a wide range of techniques\, including monumental woodblock prints\, silkscreens\, letterpress works\, etchings\, and handmade books. Subjects range from landscapes and portraiture to conceptual and text-based imagery. Highlights include Jennifer Basile’s Not a Cloud in the Sky\, an expansive six-panel color relief print measuring 6 x 16 feet; Brian Reedy’s Japanese-inspired 4 x 8-foot Godzilla linocut; and Joseph Velasquez’s large-scale fabric portrait inspired by his grandfather’s Mexican wrestling máscara. Additional featured works include Ingrid Schindall’s Please don’t make this about me\, an environmental print piece created using industrial bubble mailers rather than traditional paper surfaces\, and At The Ruins of Miami Beach\, a handprinted artist book written by Campbell McGrath and designed by Tom Virgin using letterpress techniques\, metal type\, linoleum plates\, and hand-bound materials. \nVeterans’ Voices: A 250th Anniversary\nPortfolio To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4\, 2026\, the Center partnered with the Bruce W. Carter Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Miami on a collaborative printmaking initiative honoring local U.S. Veterans.\nWorking alongside Miami-based artist Tom Virgin and the Recreation & Creative Arts Therapy Department\, Veterans participated in a series of linoleum printmaking workshops where they designed\, carved\, and printed individual plates using a traditional press. Displayed together\, the completed works form a large-scale collective tribute to America and the experiences of local Veterans. \nWax. Pigment. Fire. An Exploration in Encaustic Art\nThe exhibition features 19 encaustic works by South Florida artist and Broward County Cultural Division Grantee Jen Little. The exhibition presents a new body of layered wax paintings exploring light\, texture\, movement\, and depth. Through incised lines\, luminous color fields\, and richly textured surfaces\, the works invite viewers to slow down and engage closely with the medium’s tactile and visual complexity.
