WHAT HAPPENED AFTER I LEFT
First solo exhibition of artist Samuel Domínguez in Miami
Until March 2024
Samuel Domínguez’s exhibition, a captivating fusion of ceramics, drawing, and acrylic resin pieces, transports viewers into a realm of speculative future ecosystems and science fiction ecologies. The artist skillfully transforms celestial objects into fragments of potential landscapes, intentionally shrouding their meanings in deliberate ambiguity. The majority of the works, adorned with physical characteristics reminiscent of antiquity—be it the fractured ceramics, weathered papers, or torn surfaces—prompt a perplexing query: do these relics from the past serve as glimpses into the future or are they digitally crafted simulacra?
Presenting himself as a visionary creator, Samuel Domínguez envisions his exhibitions as dynamic and mutable occurrences, capable of metamorphosing over time. This fluid perspective mirrors his inclination to challenge established norms, providing the audience with an experience in constant flux.
Inspired by Latin American visual aesthetics and a poetic interpretation of nature in an era dominated by automation and digital realities, Domínguez’s projects abstain from establishing explicit ties to their cultural roots. Instead, they emerge as subtle murmurs or echoes, delving into the intricate nuances of the human relationship with the natural world in the contemporary landscape.
The exhibition serves as a profound contemplation on the crossroads of nature, technology, and identity in an ever-evolving world. This call to consciousness underscores how these interconnected elements mold our comprehension of the world and our role within it. “What Happened After I Left” beckons viewers to immerse themselves in a conceptual and emotional odyssey, where each piece acts as an open window to unexplored perspectives and lingering questions.
