Julie Evans: Eating Sunshine

Julie Evans, born 1959 in New York City lives and works in Hudson, New York. She is well-known for her paintings, watercolors, and collages which have been exhibited widely. In 2019 her work took a new direction when she began to produce ceramic sculptures. These works, like her two-dimensional art, reveal her interest in organic forms and saturated color. This exhibition features her ceramics alongside her works on paper for the first time.

Hank Willis Thomas exposes the insidious nature of advertising aimed at Black consumers, while Spider Martin’s iconic images capture the raw power of the Civil Rights movement. Sheila Pree Bright explores the multifaceted meaning of the American flag through personal narratives, and Liesa Cole unveils the hidden depths of human secrets. Karen Graffeo’s vibrant photographs celebrate the resilience and spirit of the Cuban people. Together, these works challenge viewers to question their perceptions and seek deeper truths.
