The Lost Generation
Women Ceramicists and the Cuban Avant-Garde
The Lost Generation: Women Ceramicists and the Cuban Avant-Garde showcases the groundbreaking work of largely overlooked female artists who transformed ceramics into a fine art form in 1940s and 1950s Cuba. Led by physician Juan Miguel Rodríguez de la Cruz, the Taller de Santiago de las Vegas brought together talented women ceramicists and renowned male painters, fostering a creative exchange that redefined Cuban art. The Golden Lining
Juan Travieso and Katerina Santos, the artistic duo Tratos, created a site-specific mural for the Frost Art Museum addressing Florida’s environmental crisis. Their mural combines hyperrealism, such as a majestic panther, with abstract elements to depict the delicate balance between nature and human impact. The work highlights the plight of endangered species, including the panther and blue butterflies, while also offering a glimmer of hope symbolized by a gold frame. This mural serves as a powerful reminder of Florida’s unique ecosystem and the urgent need for conservation.
