HistoryMiami Museum showcases the talents of local high school students in its 2024 Youth Photography Fellowship exhibition. Under the guidance of photographer Carlos Muñoz, students explored their communities and personal narratives through the lens, capturing the essence of their world. This exhibition offers a fresh perspective on Miami, highlighting the power of photography as a tool for storytelling and self-expression.

Tropical Dreams: A People’s History of South Florida
The first people to inhabit South Florida were here as early as ten thousand years ago. They were descendants of those who had migrated to America from northeastern Asia, traveling across a land bridge between Alaska and Siberia in pursuit of herds of mammoths, caribou, horse, bison, and other large animals. Tropical Dreams explores South Florida history from prehistoric times to the present day. Topics explored include First Arrivals, International Rivalry, Southward Expansion, New People – New Technology, and Gateway of the Americas.

Whitman Family Gallery
The Whitman Family Gallery celebrates the influential Miami Beach family and their 100-year legacy. From pioneering marine recreation and horticulture to iconic real estate ventures like “The Whitman” hotel and Bal Harbour Shops, their impact on Miami’s culture and history is showcased through photographs and objects, including innovative inventions like the first underwater movie camera case and fiberglass production boats. This curated space offers a captivating glimpse into the Whitman family’s entrepreneurial spirit and lasting influence on the city.
