Louis M. Glackens: Pure Imagination
Louis M. Glackens: Pure Imagination reintroduces a forgotten artistic pioneer. Often overshadowed by his brother, William, Louis Glackens emerges as a visionary cartoonist and illustrator. His playful and satirical work, particularly for Puck magazine, offers a sharp critique of society, veiled in whimsical imagery. As a pioneer of animation, Glackens’ influence on the development of the medium is undeniable. This exhibition celebrates his unique talent and offers a fresh perspective on American art and humor of the early 20th century. This exhibition was curated by NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale’s Bryant-Taylor Curator, Ariella Wolens.

Glory of the World: Color Field Painting (1950s to 1983)
Glory of the World showcases the captivating power of Color Field painting. This exhibition delves into the work of mid-twentieth-century American artists who prioritized vast expanses of color over other artistic elements. While influenced by pioneers like Newman and Rothko, these artists developed distinct approaches to their practice. Though often grouped together, each painter brought a unique perspective to this movement, creating works that evoke wonder and discovery. Curated by Bonnie Clearwater, Director and Chief Curator.

House of Glackens
House of Glackens offers an intimate glimpse into the life and work of the renowned artist and his family. Through William Glackens’ tender portrayals of his wife and children, viewers gain a personal connection to the artist’s domestic world. The exhibition also highlights the creative talents of the entire Glackens family, revealing a household steeped in artistic expression. By showcasing the works of Edith, Ira, and Lenna alongside their father’s masterpieces, the exhibition paints a comprehensive portrait of a family united by a shared passion for art. This exhibition is curated by the Museum’s Bryant-Taylor Curator, Ariella Wolens.

NSU Art Museum’s 83,000 square-foot building contains 25,000 square feet of exhibition space, a 256-seat auditorium, Museum Store and Cafe.
The Museum is the hub of the South Florida Art Coast, situated midway between Miami and Palm Beach in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale, one of the fastest growing areas in the U.S. Its distinctive modernist building, which opened in 1986 was designed by the renowned architect Edward Larrabee Barnes. Located in Fort Lauderdale’s active Arts and Entertainment District, the Museum is a short walk to the shops, restaurants and galleries of vibrant Las Olas Boulevard as well as to the picturesque Riverwalk waterfront promenade.
