Germane Barnes – Play-House
Play-House is an immersive installation by Germane Barnes that reimagines the iconic shotgun house as a space for reflection and exploration. By stripping away the typical facade, Barnes reveals the raw structure as a metaphor for the historical and cultural significance of these homes, often overlooked and undervalued. Through VR technology and archival materials, the installation invites visitors to delve deeper into the stories of the people who inhabited these spaces, highlighting the essential role of Black labor in shaping Miami’s history.

Manuel Mathieu: World Discovered Under Other Skies | Dwelling on the Invisible
World Discovered Under Other Skies: Manuel Mathieu’s first US solo exhibition unveils a powerful exploration of Haitian history and its global implications. Through vibrant and layered paintings, Mathieu intertwines personal memories with the nation’s traumatic past, revealing the enduring impact of colonialism and political upheaval. By examining Haiti’s struggles within a broader historical context, the artist invites viewers to reflect on shared human experiences and the urgent need for justice and liberation.

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) is dedicated to making contemporary art accessible to diverse audiences – especially underserved populations – through the collection, preservation and exhibition of the best of contemporary art and its art historical influences.
The Museum of Contemporary Art is located in North Miami, it expanded from the original Center of Contemporary Art, which was inaugurated in 1981 in a modest single gallery space. The Museum opened a new building in 1996 designed by Charles Gwarthmey of GSNY, who worked in conjunction with Miami firm Gelabert-Navia in the creation of the space. The museum is a site for discovering new artists, contemplating the work of contemporary masters, and learning about our living cultural heritage.
