Fragments: In the Midst of Shifting Tides
by
Isaac Bencid
a solo exhibition curated by Shirley Moreira. the exhibition invites audiences into a world of abstract collages that confront the inevitability of change and the transformative power of fragments.
Life, much like collage, is composed of ruptures, overlaps, and transitions. In this series, Bencid reassembles discarded pieces of old magazines—artifacts that carry the weight of another era—into provocative compositions that reflect contemporary realities. The works pulse with raw energy, designed not to please but to provoke, moving viewers to question, reflect, and engage with the constant processes of transformation
The collages unfold as both planar and sculptural forms, closely tied to the artist’s audiovisual sensibility. Layers of cut imagery become movements and rhythms, weaving together stories of collective and personal histories. At once intimate and expansive, the works illuminate the tension between social forces and individual experience—how macro transformations inevitably traverse and reshape the inner world.
“Bencid’s work captures the essence of becoming,” notes curator Shirley Moreira. “Each fragment is a marker of transition, revealing how change is not only inevitable but vital—an ever-present force that reshapes both our external landscapes and our inner lives.”
Fragments: In the Midst of Shifting Tides is ultimately a meditation on the ephemeral and the enduring, a testament to the beauty that emerges from rupture, recomposition, and transformation.
