JDorotha Grace Lemeh: Cycles

From climate and seasonal changes to environmental and other historical events, Cycles takes a serious and sometimes humorous look at how our human social and cultural choices, alongside other complex narratives, continuously shape our everyday experiences and consequently, our lives. Using myths, legends, archetypes, folklore, current events, and other forms of visual storytelling this new exhibition of collaged mixed media paintings, drawings, 3D elements, and digital imagery intends to feature generational concerns for all living things that occupy our planet. Joining Dorotha in this conversation will be an array of birds and other creatures, who bear witness to our human folly.

Smoke & Mirrors: Magical Thinking in Contemporary Art

The exhibition’s title refers both to performative magic and to the “magical thinking” in today’s culture rife with disinformation, conspiracy theories, and “alternative facts.” In essence, the theme of the show is lying, whether it’s stage magic where the audience is in on the deception or hoaxes perpetrated for financial or political gain. The show includes artists who are inspired by stage magic or creators of deep fakes that, when exposed, reveal a greater truth.

Julie Evans

Julie Evans, born 1959 in New York City lives and works in Hudson, New York. She is well-known for her paintings, watercolor, and collages that have been exhibited widely. In 2019 her work took a new direction when she began to produce ceramic sculptures. These works, like her two-dimensional art, reveal her interest in organic forms and saturated color. This exhibition will feature her ceramics alongside her works on paper for the first time.
