May 1 – October 31:

Exhibit: Andres Cabrera-Garcia: Circumscribed Landscapes

“Circumscribed Landscapes” is a part of the Contemporary Currents program at the Deering Estate, where artists from the Artists-in-Residence program create new works in dialogue with the estate’s history. Displayed in the ‘Garden Room,’ the exhibition by Cabrera-Garcia showcases paintings that express the diverse and exuberant nature of the estate, inviting viewers to explore and introspect during their strolls. It runs from May 1 to October 31, emphasizing the Deering Estate’s commitment to ecological preservation and combining artistic expression with the beauty of the natural world and historic houses.

June 19 – August 31:

Exhibit: Exhibit: Donna Ruff, Terra Incognita

The Deering Estate presents “Terra Incognita,” a solo exhibition by Miami-based artist Donna Ruff, on display from June 19 to August 31. The exhibition features large silkscreens on sustainable Bhutanese bark paper, based on botanist John Kunkel Small’s photographs from the estate grounds. Smaller prints and handmade books with illustrations by artist Mary Eaton are also included. “Terra Incognita” reflects Small’s early observations of South Florida, highlighting its wildness and fragility. The exhibition is funded in part by The Ellies, Miami’s visual arts awards. Donna Ruff is a versatile artist known for her mixed-media work on found printed materials.

The Art of Interaction: A workshop on dance, creation, & technology, by A.I.R. Nicole Pedraza

Experience the joy of nature and creativity in the “Movement and Math: Exploring Nature’s Creative Joy” workshop led by Deering Estate Artist-in-Residence, Nicole Pedraza. This interactive workshop, taking place on July 23, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Deering Estate Visitor Center, invites participants of all ages and backgrounds to explore nature and architecture as sources of inspiration for creating movement phrases. Using a digital interface, we will capture and transform these movements into visually stunning elements, projected onto the theater wall, resulting in a new art form and a deeper connection to the beauty of nature and exploration.
