“No interpretation needed here, everything is black and white and moves in line or blots. These ink drawings scavenge the tripes and guts of the formal vs. the philosophical. One can begin to see the connections between the need to decorate the world around and the recreation of a world, the private milieu of the artist. Landet is taking the strides, leaving us wondering whether just a little bit of sameness can produce a whole wave of change in the species.” – José Springer for FlashArt.

Daniel Bottero. The Love of the Poet
“Our past, our present and our future all influence my paintings. Each painting I create is an essential part of my inner being. My work speaks many languages, communicates on several levels at the same time. A unique psychological interaction between reality and fantasy, one that transports the observer into a dreamlike encounter with the sublime.” Daniel Bottero

"Bottero is ... a poet painter, that is, a painter who uses the medium to convey the poetry of his emotions ..." Donald Kuspit

Today Bottero works in his studios in the Wynwood Arts District of Miami and in Buenos Aires. Bottero graduated from the National School of Fine Arts, Buenos Aires. He earned his Master’s Degree at the Academia Italiana di Belle Arti, Lucca, Italy. From 1986 to 1990 Bottero resided and worked in Paris. Since 1990 he has lived and worked in New York. Bottero’s work has been shown throughout the world. His paintings are featured in the corporate collections of Citibank, Xerox, Avon, Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan Chase Bank.

Madí
Arden Quin. Bolívar. Bay. Kosice. Llorens. Laañ. Rothfuss. Uricchio.
Eight artists that were part of the Madí group. Madí is a modern art movement known for bright colors and bold geometric forms. In architecture, sculpture and painting, Madí art uses abundant circles, waves, spheres, arches, spirals, and stripes. The word Madí may be originated in letters taken from the name Carmelo Arden Quin, the Uruguayan artist who founded the Madí movement in the 1940’s. Or perhaps the term comes from the English word mad, or from the Spanish description of the movement Movimiento Artístico de Invención.

The focal point of the Madí movement was a break within the figurative tradition. Some of the most original innovations of this movement were the concepts of invention as an aesthetic artistic method and the irregular or trimmed frame. The leimotiv od the Madí was to break the representation line in art in favor of the idea of presenting the work of art as an object itself, showing its own elements without any further reference to reality.

Luis PerezSchroeder, Steel Redemption

George Schroeder. Steel Redemption

Inspired by the screeching-metal sounds of a salvage yard, San Antonio sculptor George Schroeder transforms the bangs and crashes into rough and tumble sculptures exhibiting in “Steel Redemption”.

Schroeder explains: "Working in the salvage yard is really loud,so you think about the noise, which generates all kinds of random images. My intention for this series was to create abstract forms derived from variety of sound experiences".

In his studio he has restored old metal-working machinery salvaged from various factories. Working with sheared or cut steel beams,Schroeder bends and Shapes them until the metal almost seems like a living thing. Curving in and out or appearing to fly off into space. Heavy marks and crude connections reflect the rough details of hand-forged metal.

This show, created and coordinated by Zona de Obras, the company responsible for many of the album covers by master Andrés Calamaro, as well as a long list of Latin American recording artists, is a tribute to the record itself and to the condition of being listened to, observed and felt. The show proposes a visual journey throughout Latin American graphic design exploring the covers of 519 historic contemporary rock albums. It’s a visual adventure far away from charts and ranks. Music to contemplate, full of colors and suggestive surprises that prove that graphic design is in great health in that region. Visual music composed by many generations of designers, photographers and illustrators that are key players on the “Rock in Spanish” concert. Mörker signifies the gloomy darkness seen through a child’s dream, a nightmare perhaps. Set in a magical and mysterious Scandinavian forest inhabited by eerie mystical characters intricately depicted in charcoal and ink drawings by Swedish artist Johan Bjorkegren. The longing for comfort is not lost in the innocence of a child and the warm love of a mother. Artists Ingrid Eliasson and Jennifer Basile bring a calming effect from this lurid fantasy with the detailed structured graphite drawings, juxtaposed over the rich biomorphic backgrounds. The feeling of a “cozy home” is amplified by the crocheted fiber tapestries.

Michiyoshi Deguchi. Inner Drawing. Project Room

Omar Barquet sheds the formal purism to move the geometry to an organic state, where properties are abstracted of the individual's subjectivity. Barquet condenses so particularly the operation on the set of works of art presented in the show Pautas, where he reveals the chromatic dissonance of memory..

Like a reflectent kaleidoscope, Omar Barquet’s body of work, to be exhibited in his first Miami show, projects chromatic abstractions of suggestive luminance nature, that when going into depths of a dark room bounces and shapes spectral volumes, resonant permanence of what was one presence.

Art installations by Japanese artist Michiyoshi Deguchi’s will be exhibited for the first time in Miami. Deguchi has been creating such artworks that lead the viewers make their own interpretations by many ways of expressions. His present works adopt acrylic domes, in which he places photos showing a process of drawings and the on-site scene of them as well as actual motifs.

Scott Ashley, A Soul, Guitar, Neon, Amplifier and Case, 65" x 72" x 60", dimensions variable

Scott Ashley. Possession
Pedro Vizcaino. GANG OF 4

Scott Ashley’s exhibition of mixed media installation works and sculpture explores ideas of material possession and ownership through the transformation of common everyday objects and materials.

Talent Possessed - The Guitar has been through a voodoo ceremony in which a soul was placed in the guitar by a voodoo priest. The guitar and amplifier are functional. This piece is about the current obsession with celebrity. It raises the question of talent being something one possesses naturally or if it is something that can be manufactured. It also plays into the desire that so many have of being a rock star, the desire to be famous and the lengths some will go to achieve it.

About Vizcaíno "......In 2009 Vizcaino began making paintings that he calls Gangueros. The news from the border with Mexico is not the only channel that tells us that violence is just around the corner. Or we may have already turned that corner. The gangs that control the drug trade out-gun the police, and not just in Mexico. The role that Miami plays as a port of entry to the United States of contraband of all kinds makes violence a vivid presence on its streets. And Miami traffic, with some of the craziest drivers drawn from all over the world, must be an image--- visual and aural--- for Vizcaino. In fact, these paintings screech, growl, and laugh in mockery...."

Aaron Morgan Brown. Arcana Du Jour
Caught between the Physical and Metaphysical, Morgan Brown goes beyond the narrative into Magic Realism.

Although Aaron Morgan Brown uses a narrative structure in his paintings, he denies being a “storyteller.” Brown considers his works as representations of “constructed dreaming,” using his own perception and memory to create alternative realities.

Brown’s works are reminiscent of photorealistic documentations of the mundane, but they go a step further, documenting the everyday of another reality. His paintings are technical representations of objects and environments that are easily recognizable, but not easily understood in their aggregate pictorial context.

Showing an interest in the subjective experience from an early age, it was only natural for him to gravitate toward the visual and performing arts. Brown uses his own experiences to create images of a reality that is not likely to exist.

With strong contrast of colors and shapes, he wisely creates a sense of harmony among both geometric and organic notions. It’s ingenious the way he transforms flat canvas into broad poetic tales and converts nature into an eclectic, lively form of pop art.

Mourlot Collection at Markowicz Fine Art

For several decades, vintage lithographic posters have become collectible works of art in their own right. Their place in art history is well established and documented. In fact, they are now found in most museum collections.

Mourlot was the most famous and prolific manufacturer of these images. Over is 150 year history, it produced thousands of these prints.

Artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Miro, Leger and Chagall, were intimately involved in the production of these works conceived as announcements for exhibitions, ads for tourism and as illustrations for political events.

Markowicz Fine Art is exhibiting the Mourlot collection at the gallery in the Miami Design District until January 10th.

For over 20 years, Art Nouveau has captured the hearts of collectors who appreciate and enjoy art. Since its creation, this gallery has undertaken de challenge of showcasing the most interesting proposals in the international scene, and has done so with sensitivity and courage.

It has become a reference for experts in Latin American art. It has also been a first home to some new artisits, whom time has chosen as a way to reward the remarkable vision of this gallery. For many, Art Nouveau represents avant-garde, but it is perhaps the sharp intuition to choose master pieces of contemporary art what best defines the profile of this gallery. They have understood that the eye makes the photography and that history and respect make tradition, but it is the heart that sets the guidelines in this business

Until November 19
Johan Bjorkegren. Ingrid Eliasson. Jennifer Basile [morker]

Mörker signifies the gloomy darkness seen through a child’s dream, a nightmare perhaps. Set in a magical and mysterious Scandinavian forest inhabited by eerie mystical characters intricately depicted in charcoal and ink drawings by Swedish artist Johan Björkegren.
Birds Are Nice. New CG Boutique

Birds Are Nice is a visual artists and graphic designer working in the Miami area. The decision to work anonymously as Birds Are Nice came from the artist wanting to have fun and make happy, urban work that references pop culture along with the comic and cartoon genres.

Madí
Arden Quin. Bolívar. Bay. Kosice. Llorens. Laañ. Rothfuss.

Omar Barquet. Pautas ( Rules)

Wulf’s work is at once sublimely childlike while simultaneously being profound and illuminating. There is a sense of joy and discovery and a complex back-story that drives each individual piece. Damien Whitmore, Head of Programs at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum says “The work is warm, perverse, innocent and dirty. It’s also very funny, even when it’s going for the jugular.”

“Wulf Treu does not fool around. His work is personal, brash, painterly, expressive and full of extraordinary energy...” So quotes Carol Damien the Curator of Miami’s Frost Museum about German Artist Wulf Treu.

101Gabriel Grün, Kiss of Judas, oil on wooden panel, 60 x 90 cm.
Gabriel Grün. Capriccio

Recent oil paintings from the Buenos Aires based Argentinean painter. Approaching his work with a sense of its place in art history, Grün is very much a painter’s painter. Grinding his own pigments rather than finding them commercially, Grün seeks to establish a link between the current day and the age from which he draws his stylistic inspiration. Recalling Flemish masters Van Dyck and Rubens, Grün’s work typically sets nude figures against idyllic landscapes but with modern interpretations and representations of mythological and religious themes.

His figures are rendered with a classical sense of realism in their detail and are frequently featured in movement or contortion. And though Grün follows a pre-meditated and prescribed language from a compositional point of view, his work absolutely transcends any possible banality or cliché, as it is painted with ferocity, unafraid to approach the darker sides of the sources of its inspiration. As such, the work seems to dare the viewer, flaunting its ability to use a language anew, self-assured in its aesthetic harmony.

Jeff Pullen. New York: Illusion and Reality

Pullen shows his newest body of work capturing the architectural illusions and realities of New York's buildings and skyscrapers. Born and raised in New York, Pullen gets his inspiration from the flashy Broadway corridors, to the soaring skylines. Working a unique reality/illusion dynamic,Pullen paints New York images onto constructions of brick, wood, plastic, louver doors, car-hoods, etc. The images undulate across these constructed surfaces creating an energy and a tension that seems to says ' this is New York'.

Jeff Pullen's work is represented internationally in numerous private and corporate collections, including New York University's Washington Square Windows in 2008 and Broadway Windows in 2004.

Also on view the works of: Andy Warhol, Tolla, Marlene Rose, Brad Howe, Joerg Doering, Donald Sultan, Zammy Migdaland many others.

Miriam Fernandes Gallery and Luciana Junqueira are proud to present the artwork of JB Lazzarini from Brazil to Miami Design District for his first solo exhibition in the USA. Experience the joy he aims to exude in the series of artwork he entitles METAMORFOSE.

With strong contrast of colors and shapes, he wisely creates a sense of harmony among both geometric and organic notions. It’s ingenious the way he transforms flat canvas into broad poetic tales and converts nature into an eclectic, lively form of pop art.

Hector Maldonado. Blood & Toys II.
Three Series

Since 2007, Héctor Maldonado has been working on various series from mixed media on canvas to construction/sculptures made from found objects. His work is a reflection on issues that are visceral and vital to him: God, family, home vs. house, childhood, language (communication), time, eternity, and levels of human existence; spiritual and physical.

The first series is Mi familia/ My Family, a mixed media on canvas series that deals with the relations between individuals and their immediate (familiar) habitat, exploring aspects that go beyond the physical.

Then Void Toys is a series of small scale construction/sculptures made of found objects. They are minuscule poetical and intimate scenarios where, the artist “opens the drawers” to his personal memoirs.

The third series Listen, deals with the use of children images as an excuse to reveal semantic images of profound content within an unidentifiable space, where visual and interpretation levels are touched.
