Oolite Arts presents Wortzel’s solo exhibition “Dreams of Unknown Islands,” curated by Kristan Kennedy, on view from Jan. 20 until April 4. When the pandemic emerged last spring, visual artist and filmmaker Sasha Wortzel began to stream the sunset live on Instagram. For Wortzel, the videos were a way to process the collective loss, and later the national political crises and racial reckoning alongside the ecological degradation she had been researching in Florida. After her beach walks, Wortzel at times participated in an online reading of the Kaddish, the Jewish mourning prayer, at a virtual gathering organized to move through the pain of the moment.
